My Background
I grew up in Mosgiel, Otago. For as long as I can remember I have always
had an interest in painting and drawing.
From the age of 18 I trained as a Nurseyman/Landscape Gardener serving an
apprenticeship before moving to London for a 5 year working holiday. The
highlight of my travels through Europe was visiting the many art galleries
and it was here that I developed a strong interest in Impressionist painting.
In 1990 I moved to Sydney where I became a full time artist. Living by
Sydney harbour I developed an interest in painting marine landscapes and
the sunny dry climate of Sydney suited my preference for painting
outdoors. I took part in many local municipal art shows winning prizes
and commendations for my paintings including a first at Ryde and Paramata
art shows.
In 1994 I moved back to New Zealand and currently live in Mt Eden Auckland.
My painting travels take me to Australia, Hawaii and throughout New Zealand. I enjoy painting throughout New Zealand often choosing to paint plein air,
setting up the easel to paint small spontaneous sketches on the spot which
are often the catalyst for larger works painted in the studio. Favourite
subjects are the views from Auckland Cities volcanic cones and Tamaki
Drive, Northland / Coromandel coastline and the Canterbury / Otago High
Country.
Purchasers of my art include former U.S President Bill Clinton after a visit to the
International Art Centre.
I have had 10 solo exhibitions, my next exhibition will be held at the International
Art Centre in February 2013.
